About
NSS stands for the National Service Scheme, which is a prominent youth program in India aimed at engaging college students in community service and social development activities. The NSS was launched in 1969 and is sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
Objectives:
The primary objectives of NSS are to develop the personality of students through community service, promote social welfare, and inculcate a sense of responsibility, empathy, and citizenship among the youth. NSS strives to create a positive impact on society by addressing local community needs and challenges.
Functions:
The NSS unit of Smt. Devkiba Mohansinhji Chauhan College of Commerce and Science provides a platform to the students for community work and developing a sense of involvement in the tasks of Nation building. NSS volunteers work to ensure that a needy get help to enhance their standard of living.
A variety of activities are organized every year to channelize the energy and idealism of the younger generation into creative pursuits. They educate students and society regarding many issues like health, sanitation, etc. Various health and hygiene awareness campaigns across campus and slum areas nearby are taken out regularly to create awareness and also to motivate people to work towards a clean environment.
Special camps are organized that serve as platforms for intensive community service. Apart from camps, NSS volunteers also dedicate a certain number of hours per week towards community service activities. These activities include conducting surveys, organizing awareness campaigns, participating in cleanliness drives, working with NGOs or local authorities, and implementing community development projects.
